Jonathan Hyde

Bio

Jonathan Hyde is an acclaimed Australian actor best known for his leading roles in cult-hit films such as Richie Rich (Warner Bros), Titanic  (Paramount Pictures), The Mummy (Universal) and Jumanji (Sony Pictures). On the smaller screen, Jonathan recently played the regular role of Eldritch Palmer in four seasons of FX TV series The Strain and was seen playing David Napley in A Very English Scandal directed by Stephen Frears for Amazon/BBC. Other screen credits include Shadow of the Noose (BBC); Spooks (BBC); Caravaggio (Cinevista); and The Tailor of Panama (Sony Pictures). Jonathan also recently starred in indie feature Sebastian (LevelK) which premiered at Sundance before having its UK premiere at the LFF this year. He also recently played a key part in the Venice Film Festival stand out feature The Brutalist (A24) for Protagonist Pictures. On the small screen, he can be seen in the final series of The Crown.

Jonathan has worked extensively at the National Theatre, the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Prospect Theatre Company, Almeida, Menier Chocolate Factory and the great Citizen’s Theatre Company of Glasgow. Theatre credits include The Gathered Leaves (Marylebone Theatre/London), King Lear, The Seagull, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, The Merchant of Venice, Romeo and Juliet (Royal Shakespeare Company); Frost/Nixon, Julius Caesar (Sheffield Crucible Theatre); Rattigan’s Nijinsky, Hedda Tesman (CFT); Jumpers, The Duchess of Malfi, Sleep With Me, The Real Inspector Hound, The Cherry Orchard (National Theatre); Scenes from An Execution, The Rehearsal (The Almeida); Antigone (Old Vic); Hamlet (Theatre Royal Windsor); The King’s Speech (UK Tour/West End), and several seasons at the Glasgow Citizens’ Theatre.

Last year Jonathan was nominated for an Olivier Award for his role in Gently Down the Stream at the Park Theatre.   Jonathan is a principally a character actor who has played a wide range of high-definition roles, from Lady Bracknell to the Marquis de Sade, Diaghilev to Captain Hook, Valmont to Brutus.
